We all have scraps of yarn that are too large to throw out, but too small to do much with. So for my entry into the 2020 Holiday Stashdown CAL from our friends at CAL Central, I made this trio of ornaments using small amounts of Bulky, Worsted, and Fingering weight yarns. They are super quick to work up, and I got the balls to cover at the dollar store so they are inexpensive as well
MATERIALS
Small amounts yarn in the weight of your choice, with appropriate hooks. For the green and shiny silver ornament I used Bulky weight yarn with an L/11/8.0mm hook, for the gray and matte silver ornament I used Worsted weight and an I/9/5.50mm hook, and finally for the white and shiny gold ornament I used Fingering weight yarn and a G/6/4.25mm hook

Yarn needle
Stitch marker
NOTE All ornaments are worked in a spiral. Mark beginning of round with a stitch marker.
Gauge Not critical for this pattern. You can always fudge a little at the top by adding or subtracting single crochet rounds at the end.
Bulky Weight
Started with a magic ring, or ch 3 and join into ring with sl st in first ch.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in ring. Mark beg of rnd and move st market up with each subsequent rnd.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. 12 sc
Rnd 3: 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Rep from * around. 18 sc
Rnd 4: Sc in next sc, *ch 5, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc. Rep from * around replacing final sc with sl st in first sc. 6 ch-5 loops
Rnd 5: Sl st in each of next 2 ch, sc in same ch-5 sp, *ch 5, sc in next ch-5 sp. Rep from * around, replacing final sc with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 6: Sl st in each of next 2 ch, sc in same ch-5 sp, * ch 7, sc in next ch-5 sp. Rep from * around, replacing final sc with sl st in first sc. 6 ch-7 loops
Rnd 7: Sl st in each of next 3 ch, sc in same ch-7 sp, * ch 7, sc in next ch-7 sp. Rep from * around, replacing final sc with sl st in first sc.
Insert ball into crochet cover now!
Rnd 8 : Sl st in each of next 3 ch, sc in same ch-7 sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch-7 sp. Rep from * around, replacing final sc with sl st in first sc. 6 ch-3 sps
Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same sc as rnd join, sc in next ch-3 sp, *sc in next sc, sc in next ch-3 sp. Rep from * around. 12 sc
Rnd 10: *sc2tog. Rep from * around. End off leaving a long tail. 6 sc
Weave tail in and out of top of sc in last rnd, and pull tight around ornament hanger. Weave in tail securely.
Worsted Weight
Rep Rnds 1 – 3 of Bulky Weight.
Rnd 4: Ch 4, dc in next sc, *ch 1, dc in next sc. Rep from * around, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4. 18 dc + 18 ch-1 sps
Rnds 5 & 6: Ch 4, dc in next dc, * ch 1, dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4.
Rnd 7: Ch 5, dc in next dc, *ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-5.
Rnd 8: Ch 3, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, *dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp. Rep from * around, dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 38 dc
Rnd 9: Ch 5, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc, * ch 1, sk 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, sk 2 dc, dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ch 1, sk 1 dc, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-5. 18 dc + 9 ch-1 sps + 9 ch-2 sps
Rnds 10 & 11: Rep Rnd 5.
Insert ball into crochet covering.
Rnd 12: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join rnd with st st in top of beg-ch-3. 18 dc
Rnd 13: *Sc2tog. Rep from * around, End off leaving a long tail. 9 sc
Weave tail in and out of top of sc in last rnd, and pull tight around ornament hanger. Weave in tail securely.
Fingering Weight Hearts
Rep Rnds 1 – 3 of Bulky Weight.
Rnd 4: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, *2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc. Rep from * around adding 1 additional sc in last sc. 25 sc
Rnd 5: Ch 4, dc in next sc, *ch 1, dc in next sc. Rep from * around, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4. 25 dc + 25 ch-1 sps
Rnds 6 – 8: Ch 4, dc in next dc, *ch 1, dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ch 1, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4.
Rnd 9: Ch 5, dc in next dc, *ch 1, 3 dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, (ch 2, dc in next dc) 3 times. Rep from * around, ch 1, 3 dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-5. 5 3-dc shells + 20 dc
Rnd 10: Ch 6, *sk next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, sk next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, **dc in next dc, ch 3. Rep from * around, ending final repeat at **. Join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-6. 5 5-dc hearts + 10 dc
Rnd 11: Ch 6, dc3tog, ch 3, dc3tog beginning in the same st as the last leg of the previous dc3tog (you are essentially working those 2 dc3togs over 5 sts instead of 6), ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 2, ** dc in next dc, ch 3. Rep from * around ending final repeat at **. Join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-6. 10 dc3togs + 10 dc
Rnd 12: Ch 4, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, sk dc3tog, dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, sk dc3tog, dc in next ch, (ch 1, dc in next dc) twice. Rep from * around replacing final dc with join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4. 25 dc + 25 ch-1 sps
