That rotten Drew tagged me for a meme. He has relieved me of my meme virginity; in public no less! The Shock!! The Horror!!! The Exclamation Points!!!!!
Herewith: Seven Random Things
The Rules: Each person tagged gives seven random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs seven facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and need to read your blog.
Hmmmm…..
One: I was very much into singing and acting in high school and the early college years – I wanted to be a musical theater star. I got over that one pretty quickly after moving to NYC though, and worked on Broadway, films and television programs as a costumer for many years instead.
Two: This didn’t mean I stopped singing – one of the coolest things about my wardrobe days was the fact that since I could sing harmonies, sight read sheet music, and had no desire for center mic, I got asked to sing in a lot of charity programs for/with Broadway folks. I will never forget singing a solo at a charity concert on the stage of the St. James Theater, looking down at the front row, and seeing Tommy Tune looking back at me. All of the fun of a broadway career with none of the stress 🙂 I also backed up Mary Bond Davis, Ann Duquesnay, and sang at some big deal awards ceremony when Glenn Close got a lifetime achievement award.
Three: Then I was an antiques dealer – primarily textiles and decorative arts. My favorite part of that was displaying at the Brimfield (MA) antiques market a few times a year. Sort of a 24 hour a day seven days in a row swap meet. Aside from the questionable hygeine arrangements (I didn’t mind sleeping in the back of my car for a week, but sharing a shower with 200 mostly male strangers was a little odd), it was a whole lot of fun.
Four: I cannot dance, and wish I could.
Five: Bill Cosby once announced to a live audience that I was a screw-up. I was working for him at the time, and I had not in fact delayed the shoot, but he thought it would be fun to blame me since he knew I had dear friends in the audience. He made it up to me by being really nice to my friends after the taping – they still talk about how wonderful he was. I liked working for Dr. C a whole heck of a lot. And I don’t care what they say about him in the tabloids – he is the real deal.
Six: I co-hosted a cable television show in NYC for a whopping eight weeks. The network decided to get rid of live programming during a change in their business model and we got axed. The funny thing was, while the changeover was happening, they ran the episodes of our show over and over and over and over… you couldn’t turn that damn channel on for about a month and not see my smiling face. My antique dealer friends who lived locally thought this was funny as hell, and would quote me to myself all the time. I am glad THAT’s over. My former co-host works for CBS in NYC I am told, and I think he won an Emmy – but it certainly wasn’t for Open Market!
Seven: When I was in the sixth grade, I wanted to be a writer. I went through many other careers in the years that followed, but guess what? I am a writer! Be careful what you wish for in the sixth grade…
I haven’t decided who I will tag yet – I don’t want anyone to hate me, so that let’s a lot of people out. Maybe all of y’all who are reading this could just consider yourself tagged if you would be so kind…
I was also tagged by Drew, but your seven thing are so much more interesteng than my seven things. I’m glad you had fun at the show!
