Scarf:

Cast on 19 sts (to change size see modification notes below!).

Knit 6 rows.

Row 1 (WS): K3, place marker if desired, k1, *p1, k1. Rep from * to last 3 sts, place marker if desired, k3.

Row 2 (RS): Knit.

Rep Rows 1 – 2 for pattern until work measures 70 1/2”, 1 1/2” under desired length, or you have about 10 yards of yarn left.

Knit 6 rows. Bind off knitwise.

Notes on Modifications:

If you want to make your scarf wider or narrower, or perhaps you are using a different weight of yarn (with the appropriate size needles of course) and you need to really adjust your cast-on this is all you need to know – your borders need to be the same on either side (I used 3 stitches) and your center section needs to be an odd number.

So in the case of this scarf I have 3 stitches for each border (6 sts) and 13 in the center (13 + 6 = 19).

Now you can use this stitch for any sort of project, with any sort of yarn that you like, from a fingering weight scarf to a Jumbo blanket!
