I seem to be on a crochet fidget kick recently, and was looking for something for the more mature folks who like to fiddle with something to calm their nerves. This simple beaded piece can be added to a key ring or lanyard as a decorative item, but the beads twirl when you move them in a very satisfying way!

Materials:
Small amount worsted weight yarn. I used Lily Sugar n Cream in Rose Pink
7 large pony beads
Crochet hook size E/4/3.50mm
Keyring fitting – mine had a lanyard clip as well
Tapestry Needle
Note: Ch-2 does NOT count as a stitch.
Keychain
To begin, pre-string 7 pony beads onto the working yarn, using the crochet hook or a tapestry needle
Ch 5.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of next 2 ch. Ch 2, turn. 3 hdc (see note)
Row 2: Hdc in first hdc, ch 1, slide bead up to work and draw the working loop through the bead (see video if you need more help), sk 1 hdc, hdc in next hdc. Ch 2, turn. 2 hdc + 1 beaded chain
Rows 3 – 8: Hdc in first hdc, ch 1, slide bead up to work and draw the working loop through the bead, hdc in next hdc. Ch 2, turn.
Row 9: 2 hdc in first hdc, sk bead, 2 hdc in next hdc. Do not turn. 4 hdc
Edging:
Rnd 1: Rotate work 90 degrees clockwise to work around the outer edge. Working in ch-2 sps created by turning chs, noting that only every other row has a ch-2 sp, (5 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp) twice; rotate work 90 degrees clockwise, working across opposite side of foundation ch, 5 dc in next hdc, dc in each of next 2 hdc, 5 dc in bottom of original t-ch; rotate work 90 degrees clockwise, sc in next ch-2 sp, 5 dc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, 5 dc in side of Row 8 next to the last bead, rotate working 90 degrees clockwise, sc across each hdc of Row 9, holding the key ring to the back of the work and working through each st and into the key ring at the same time. Sl st in next st. End off.
Finishing:
Weave in ends.
I have been looking for FIDGET items for several months to use on squares that can be put together as a lap blanket or book. I am ecstatic to find your patterns and videos. Thank you for taking the time to share!!!
This is very cute, and I”ve already made one. My only comment is that you have row 2 mentioned twice, so it needs to be renumbered. Otherwise awesome pattern. Thank you!
