Remember me?

Good lord it has been hectic!

But just to prove that knitting is the universal language, I have this story to share. I spent the last three days at the ASJA (American Society of Journalists and Authors) annual writer’s convention in New York City. I am still spinning – I met editors, took classes, drank beers, met a zillion people in real life that I know from being online, and mentored two aspiring essayists. My feet hurt, my brain is melting, and I have 200 pieces of paper and loose business cards to sort through before I forget why I have them. And did I mention I have to leave for the airport at 4:30 AM tomorrow morning to catch my flight to Indiana?

Anyway, I decided this morning after my mentoring obligations were finished that I couldn’t stand to sit through the last class session or two, that I would be better off coming home, packing suitcases, and going through those 200 papers. On my way out the door I stopped by the conference table to say goodbye to a few new friends. Then someone came up to me and said – “I just have to ask – was that a Clapotis you were wearing yesterday? I LOVE that pattern!” I just about fell over – granted there are knitters everywhere, but I thought I had done a pretty good job of disguising my obsession when I refrained from knitting socks during the more contentious panel discussions. I confirmed that yes indeed it was a Clapotis, mentioned the yarn I chose (Cameo by Wool in the Woods), and of course, being me, plugged the upcoming The Secret Language of Knitters book Then someone else walking by piped up and said “Knitty coffeeshop? My granddaughter hangs out there, do you know her?” And next thing you know, here we all were talking about knitting in the hallway. Pretty amusing.

About that Indiana trip? That’s where I will be for the next week or so, except for a fly-by to PA so the kid can hit a competition. If you are in the vicinity of Route 40 anytime next week, here is where I will be. Stop by and say hello. I will have my knitting hidden away somewhere I am sure.
