Silly Monster will not only hold your treats but he will gobble them up with his open mouth if given half a chance. He’s very quick to stitch in bulky weight yarn, and his hair is made by working single crocheters between the loops of the currently very popular loop yarn!
Finished Size:
Bag is 17″ tall when flat from start to finish, not including handle.
24″ in circumference at widest point.
Materials:
Approx 225 yds Super Bulky weight yarn (CYCA 6, Super Bulky) plus 80g of loop yarn (CYCA 7, Jumbo). Model shown in Lion Brand Yarn Hometown USA (r) (100% acrylic; 5 oz/81 yd), 2 skeins Cincinnati Red (MC) and 1 skein Oakland Black (CC) and 1 skein Crayola Off the Hook in Motley.
Crochet hook size N/15/10.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Locking stitch marker
2 4″ google eyes
Multi surface glue to attach eyes
Tapestry needle
Gauge: 8 sts x 4 rows = 4″ in dc. Gauge not critical for this pattern.

Bag:
With MC, ch 4. Join into a ring with sl st in first ch. OR
With MC, work Magic Ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. 12 dc
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in first dc, 2 dc in each dc around. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. 24 dc
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc in next dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc. Rep from * around. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. 36 dc
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in each of next 2 dc. Rep from * around. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. 48 dc
Rnds 5 – 9: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. End off.
NOTE: As you switch to Rows, place locking stitch marker on first st of rnd and move it up as you stitch.
Separate for Mouth:
Row 1: Count 30 sts from the first st in the last rnd, join with sl st in next dc, ch 3, dc2tog, dc across, working across old start of round, until 8 sts remain, dc2tog, ch 3, turn. 40 dc
Row 2: Dc2tog, dc in each dc across until 2 sts remain, dc2tog. Ch 3, turn. 38 dc
Row 3: Dc in first dc, dc in each dc across to last st, 2 dc in last dc, ch 6, sk the 6 open sts of Row 1, join with sl st in next dc. End off. 40 dc
Upper Bag:
Rnd 1: Reattach MC at locking stitch marker denoting original beg of rnd. Ch 3, dc in each dc and ch around. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. 46 dc
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc2tog, dc in each of next 4 dc, (dc2tog, dc in each of next 6 dc) twice, dc2tog, dc in each of next 5 dc, (dc2tog, dc in each of next 6 dc) twice. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. 40 dc
Rnds 3 – 4: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join rnd with sl st in first dc.
Add Hair:
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each dc around, working over the loop yarn, stitching between the loops, and making sure the loops are facing the RS of the work. Join rnd with sl st in first sc.
Rnds 2 – 5: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, working over the loop yarn, stitching between the loops, and making sure the loops are facing the RS of the work. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off loop yarn after Rnd 5.
Rnd 6: With CC, ch 1, sc in each sc around. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off.
Handle:
With CC ch 7. Join into a ring with sl st in first ch.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around. Mark first st. Do not join rnd. 7 sc
Continue to work in a spiral (sc in each sc around with no joining of rounds or chaining) until work measures 20″ or desired length. End off.
Finishing:
Join CC in any stitch at mouth opening.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 23 dc evenly spaced around mouth opening. Join rnd with sl st in first dc. 24 dc
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each dc around. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off
Sew handle to each side of bag as shown in photo.
Weave in all ends.
Glue googly eyes into place.
