Tunisian Crochet Sweater

This simple to make Tunisian Crochet Sweater is made in Tunisian Simple Stitch, with some full row colorwork thrown into the yoke. It has a relaxed crew neck, a slightly oversized fit, and traditional crochet front post faux ribbing. It makes a wonderful first sweater to stitch due to its simple shaping.

This post is part of the 2025 International Crochet Month Blog Hop sponsored by Underground Crafter.

Tunisian crochet hook size K/10.5/6.50mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Crochet hook size I/9/5.50mm

Tapestry needle

Gauge: 15 sts x 15 rows = 4” in TSS

Notes:

Sweater has a relaxed crew neck so the Front and Back are the same.

All rows use the Standard Return, only forward passes are written out.

Ch-2 counts as hdc.

Stripe Pattern:

To begin make the forward pass in teal. Moving on make the return pass in a random color from the box, make the next forward pass in the same color; *return pass in next color, forward pass in same color. Rep from * to end.

Standard Return: Yo, draw through 1 loop on hook, *yo, draw through 2 loops on hook. Rep from * until 1 loop remains on hook.

Front and Back: Make 2:

With Tunisian hook and teal ch 74 (81, 87, 96, 102, 111).

Work in TSS until work measures 12 (12, 13, 13, 14, 14)”.

Armhole Shaping:

Row 1 Forward: Sl st as if to TSS in each of next 7 (8, 11, 12, 15, 15) sts, TSS across until 7 (8, 11, 12, 15, 15) sts remain, leave remaining sts unworked. 60 (65, 65, 72, 72, 81) sts

Work even on these sts until work measures 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3)” from start of Armhole Shaping.

Change to Stripe Pattern.

Continue working even in Stripe Pattern until work measures 5 (5, 6, 6, 6 ½, 7)” from start of Armhole Shaping.
