Ultramarine Scarf to Crochet

This is one of my favorite single crochet stitch variations in which trios of single crochet stitches hang out on top of each other, giving densely textured stitches with both vertical and horizontal interest.

Finished Size: 6” x 82” excluding fringe

Materials:

2 skeins King Cole Autumn Chunky (80% acrylic/20% wool; 153 yds; 100 g) in Morning Dew #5253

Crochet hook size L/11/8.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Optional: smaller crochet hook to tie on fringe

Note: For the scarf shown I crocheted up every bit of two skeins of yarn, then used some leftovers from the matching hat (coming soon!) for the fringe. If you only want to use two skeins of yarn and you want the fringe, cut the fringe before you start crocheting so you have enough!

Gauge: 14 sts x 7 rows = 4”/10cm in pattern st

Abbreviations:

Ch – chain

Rep – repeat

Sc – single crochet

Sk – skip

Scarf:

Ch 17.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 16 sc

Row 2: 3 sc in first sc, *sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc. Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn. 18 sc

Row 3: Sk first sc, 3 sc in next sc, *sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc. Rep from * across leaving last sc unworked. Ch 1, turn.

Rep Row 3 for pattern until work measures 82”, or you are nearly out of yarn (see note regarding fringe)

Last Row: Sk first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, leave last sc unworked. End off. 16 sc

Finishing:

Weave in all ends.

Optional: Fringe:

Cut 32 pieces of fringe, 20” long.

Fold each piece in half and knot one piece of fringe into each sc on each short side. Level off with scissors if needed.
