Victorian Velvet Scarf – 30 Days of Cozy CAL

So soft and plush! Super soft, incredibly warm, simple to stitch, the Victorian Velvet Scarf is suitable for beginners on up. The contrasting edging include shells, post stitches, and reverse single crochet or crab stitch. Materials:

• 315 yds/300g CYCA 5 Bulky weight yarn – Model shown in Bernat Velvet in Misty Gray (A) and Velveteal (B)

• Size K / 10.5 / 6.5 mm crochet hook

• Yarn needle

Difficulty: Easy

Size: 9” wide x 72” long

Gauge:

9 sts x 7 rows (4 dc/3 sc) = 4” in alternating rows of dc and sc

Abbreviations:

Bptr = back post treble crochet

Ch = chain

Dc = double crochet

Fptr = front post treble crochet

RS = right side

Sc = single crochet

st = stitch

WS = wrong side

Pattern Notes:

• Ch-3 = 1 dc

• Shell = (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same st

Special Stitches:

Bptr: Yo twice, insert hook around throat of next st on back of work, (right to left for right-handed stitchers, left to right for left-handed stitchers), yo draw through st, (yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times.

Fptr: Yo twice, insert hook around throat of next st on front of work, (right to left for right-handed stitchers, left to right for left-handed stitchers), yo draw through st, (yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times.

Body:

With A, ch 22.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 21 sc

Row 2 (RS): Dc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 21 dc

Row 3 (WS): Sc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 21 sc

Rep Rows 2 – 3 for pattern until work measures 60” long or desired length, ending with a Row 3. On final Row 3, change to B, ch 1, turn.

Edging:

First side:

Row 1 (RS): With B, sc in each sc across. Ch 3, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Dc in next sc, (sk 2 sc, shell in next sc, sk 2 sc, dc in next sc) 3 times, dc in last sc. Ch 3, turn. 3 shells + 6 dc

Row 3: Fptr in next dc, (sk 2 dc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sk 2 dc, fptr in next dc) 3 times, dc in last dc. Ch 3, turn.

Row 4: Bptr in next fptr, (sk 2 dc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sk 2 dc, bptr in next fptr) 3 times, dc in last dc. Ch 3, turn.

Row 5: Fptr in next bptr, (sk 2 dc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sk 2 dc, fptr in next bptr) 3 times, dc in last dc. Ch 3, turn.

Row 6: Rep Row 4, do not ch-3 at end of row. End off.

Second Side:

With RS facing, and B, rep First Side, beginning in opposite side of foundation ch.

Finishing:

With B, work 1 row reverse sc evenly spaced along each long side of scarf.

Weave in ends.
