Finished Size: 12” square
Materials:
Red Heart With Love in three colors. I used Delightful (A), Light Gray (B) and Aran (C)
Crochet Hook size J/10/6.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge: Finished square is 12”
Trinity st: Sc3tog, placing first leg in the same st as the last leg of the previous stitch, ch 1. In this pattern at the beg of the row the first leg of the first Trinity stitch is in the same st as the beg-sc.
Note: Do NOT ch 1 after last Trinity st in a row. The final sc will finish off the row neatly.
Center Block:
With A, ch 8.
Row 1 (WS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 7 sc
Row 2 (RS): Sc in first sc, Trinity St across (see Special Stitches), sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 3 Trinity sts + 2 sc
Row 3: Sc in each st and ch-sp across. Ch 1, turn. 7 sc
Rows 4 – 7: Rep Rows 2 – 3 twice. Change to B, end off A.
Rows 8 – 11: With B, work Rows 2 – 3. End off.
Rows 12 – 15: With RS facing, attach B with a standing sc in opposite side of foundation ch, continue to work Row 2, then 3, then rep Rows 2 – 3 once more, end off.
Side Blocks 1: Work twice, once on each side of Center Block.
Row 1: With C, and RS facing, work 15 sc evenly spaced along side edge of Center Block. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 2 – 5: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Do not ch 1 after Row 5, end off.
Top/Bottom Blocks 1: Work twice, once on top and once on bottom of piece.
Row 1: With RS facing, attach C with standing sc on top right corner of block, Trinity St across, noting that to make the stitches line up you will have 4 stitch legs total over the sc section, then work in each stitch of the B sts of Center Block, and 4 legs total over the second sc section. Sc in last st. Ch 1, turn. 7 Trinity St + 2 sc
Row 2: Sc in each st and ch-sp across. Ch 1, turn. 15 sc
Row 3: Sc in first sc, Trinity St across (see Special Stitches), sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Rep Row 2.
Side Blocks 2: Work twice, over Side Blocks 1.
Rep instructions for Side Blocks 1 but beg with WS facing and work over 23 sts.
Top/Bottom Blocks 2: Work twice, once on top and once on bottom of piece.
Rep instructions for Top/Bottom Blocks 1, ending Row 1 with 11 Trinity Sts + 2 sc, and ending Row 2 with 23 sc.
Side Blocks 3: Work twice, over Side Blocks 2.
Rep instructions for Side Blocks 1 working over 31 sts.
Finishing:
With A and RS facing, work 1 rnd sc, placing 3 sc in each corner. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. End off.
Optional:
With A, work two lines of surface crochet, following the outline of the Side Blocks.
Weave in all ends.
