Angled Blocks Pullover

Angled Squares is the perfect combination of linked half double crochet for coverage, and join-as-you-go granny squares to create wide open spaces. Stitch the yoke in coordinated colors of sock weight yarn, then build the front and back of the sweater down and seam the sides.

Finished Size: 35 (40, 45, 50, 55)” finished bust, slightly stretched. The linked stitch fabric is very stretchy and the sweater is meant to fit closely.

Materials: Approx 1620, (2055, 2055, 2055, 2500) yds fingering weight yarn (CYCA 1, Fine) in four colors; 870 (1305, 1305, 1305, 1740) yds of a main color and 435 yds each of 3 coordinating colors. Crochet hook size F/5/3.75mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: 20 dc and 11 rows = 4 in / 10cm

Abbreviations:

Beg – begin(s/ning)

RS – right side

Sc – single crochet

Sk – skip(ped)

Sl – slip(ped)

Sl st – slip stitch

Sp – space

St(s) – stitch(es)

T-ch – turning chain

Special Stitch: Ldc: Insert hook in diagonal strand midway across dc just made, yo, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops] twice; after a turning ch, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, pull up loop, insert hook in st at base of turning ch, yo, pull up loop, finish dc as per usual

Notes:

In granny squares, ch-3 counts as 1 dc.

Granny pattern is written as if each round will be a different color, and the second rnd begins with a standing start, by which I mean begin with a sl knot on your hook and dc where directed instead of joining yarn with a sl st and then chaining to replace the first st.

In ldc, t-ch does NOT count as a stitch and should never be stitched into.

You must make the yoke of the sweater before you crochet the Front and Back, but it’s easiest to leave the sleeves for after.

With RSs facing, sew Front to Back at side seams from the bottom of the sleeve down to the hem. Turn RS out.

Hem Trim: With MC make a granny square and join one point in the marked st. Remove marker. Continue making MC granny squares and joining them to the hem and to the granny square before it, skipping 9 ldc between joins.
