In my continuing series of cute textured knit stitches based on ribbing, I bring you the Irregular Rib. It is a four-row repeat, and while it is not identical on both sides, I would still say it’s a pattern that can be used for a reversible stitch pattern because both sides are interesting and textured. It has a little bit of width-wise stretch because half of the stitches are ribbed but it does not snap back to the extent that a 1 x 1 ribbing would.

Finished Size: 8” wide x 52” long after a light blocking.
Materials:
1 skein Lion Brand Yarns Heartland® (CYCA 4 Medium; 100% acrylic; 5 oz; 251 yds) in Kobuk Valley #136-143T or desired colorway
Knitting needles size 7/4.5mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge: 17 sts x 26 rows = 4” in irregular rib after a light blocking
While gauge is not critical for this pattern as long as you have a please fabric, remember if your gauge is tighter than might you will need an additional skein of yarn to get to the same measurements.
Notes:
You can easily adjust the scarf to make it longer by adding a second skein of yarn and knitting more rows, or widen or narrow the scarf by adjusting the cast-on. Just make sure you have cast on an odd number of stitches.
As with all the ribbed scarves I have done, there is a side edging on each side of 3 garter stitches. If you just want to learn the stitch pattern, remove the first and last 3 stitches of each row.
