H/8/5.00mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
1 ½” decorative button

Gauge: 13 sts x 6 rows = 4”/10cm in main pattern stitch
Notes:
Ch-3 counts as 1 dc
Ch-4 counts as 1 dc + ch-1 sp
Abbreviations:
Beg – beginning
Blo – back loop only
Ch – chain
Dc – double crochet
Sc – single crochet
Sk – skip
Sl st – slip stitch
Sp – space
Yo – yarn over
Special Stitches:
Puff st – (yo, insert hook around throat of dc just made, yo, draw up a loop) 3 times, yo, draw through all 7 loops on hook
Brim:
Ch 11, leaving a long tail at beginning for finishing.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 10 sc
Row 2: Scblo in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep Row 2 for pattern until brim measures 22” when lightly stretched, or desired length. Do not end off.
Fold Brim into a circle with the foundation ch and the last row meeting, join by working a sl st in the side of the foundation ch directly across from the last st made.
Side:
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 64 sc evenly spaced along side of ribbing. Join rnd with sl st in first sc. 64 sc
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc n next sc and in each sc around. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 64 dc
Rnd 3: Ch 4, sk next dc, dc in next dc, *ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ch 1, sk last dc. Join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4. 32 dc & 32 ch-1 sps
Rnd 4: Ch 3, sk ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, ch 2, puff st around throat of dc just made, ch 1, *(sk ch-1 sp, dc in next dc) twice, ch 2, puff st around throat of dc just made, ch 1. Rep from * around. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 16 puff sts + 16 dc
Rnd 5: Ch 4, dc in next puff st, *ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next puff st. Rep from * around, ch 1. Join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-4. 32 dc + 32 ch-1 sps
Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in each dc and ch-1 sp around. Join rnd with sl st in top of beg-ch-3. 64 dc
Rnd 7: Rep Rnd 3.
Rnd 8: Rep Rnd 4.
Rnd 9 (dec rnd): Ch 4, dc in next puff st, dc in next dc, *ch 1, dc in next puff st, dc in next dc. Rep from * around to last puff st, ch 1, dc in next puff st. Join rnd with sl st in 3rd ch of beg-ch-3. 32 dc + 16 ch-1 sps
Rnd 10 (dec rnd): Ch 3, dc in each dc around, skipping each ch-1 sp. 32 dc
Rnd 11 (dec rnd): Ch 2, dc in next dc (these 2 sts count as a dc2tog), *dc2tog, rep from * around. Join rnd with sl st in first dc, ignoring the beg-ch-2. 16 dc
Rnd 12 (dec rnd): Rep Rnd 11. End off leaving a long tail for finishing. 8 dc
Finishing:
Thread tail from final rnd onto tapestry needle. Weave in and out of final 8 sts and pull tight to close. Fasten off.
Thread tail from foundation ch onto tapestry needle. Seam up brim.
Fold up brim so that the edge lines up with the top of Rnd 2; sew button into place.
Weave in all ends.
