Reversible Japanese Knot Bag

I love the shape of this reversible Japanese Knot Bag! I made mine out of some upholstery fabric I rescued from an antique store (more projects to come – there were 12 bolts languishing back there!) and it is so quick to sew – I can finish one in under an hour!

Reversible Japanese Knot Bag pattern and kit for sale at Shop.MBTCreates.com while supplies last.

And while supplies last you can purchase a kit with 1/2 yard of each of the fabrics I used in the prototype, the pattern printed on 18” x 24” paper so you don’t have to download and tape together smaller sheets, and the instructions for assembly.

If you only want to purchase a download the template and instructions – I have you covered here!

How much fabric will you need for the reversible Japanese Knot Bag? That depends on what type of fabric you are using!

The finished bag is about 20” tall at its tallest point (open, not closed) and about 13” wide.

Fabric – For the reversible bag shown you will want to cut two mirrored pieces out of two different fabrics. Each piece is 21” x 14” at its largest dimensions so how much yardage you would need to purchase will depend on whether you have a directional print.

If you want your print to work selvage to selvage you would need ½ yard each of 2 prints or solids that are at least 42” in width, or 1 yard total if you want to use only one color.

If your print runs parallel to the selvages you would need 2/3 yard each of 2 prints or solids or 1 1/3 yard total if you want to use only one color.

Four fat quarters will work as long as the prints aren’t directional! Or use up some of those scraps and make a patchwork or crumb quilt fabric to work with.
