Well the Ternion Square pattern as blown up in a good way. I am delighted with all of the love for it but I am also especially in love with all of the amazing interpretations people have made, most of whom are participating the the Moogly CAL 2021 Click on over if you want to see Tamara’s interpretation but the following folks have very graciously given me permission to share their work so everyone can see their creativity at work!
First up this lovely blue and white square from Bari F –
In addition to adding additional color changes, she changed up the direction of the surface crochet chains, and added and extra round of edging.
This next one is from Nancy P. I love the color combo here – pinks and greens always feel very spring floral to me.
Janine G also changed up the colors and the surface chains, making the outlines focus on a different part of the square. She also changed her out edge to double crochet and single crochet rounds to keep the focus on the center of the block.
The next one, from Denise P, is a really interesting exercise in color placement. The block itself is stitched in neutrals but then takes a big pop of color from the surface crochet.
This next one is from Anneka K. To see more of her beautiful crochet work you can follow her on Instagram at @on_a_cat_creations I love how she extended the idea of the trinity stitch into her border.
Sara B elected to eliminate the surface chains altogether, and says her mother said it reminded her of the quilt pattern “Courthouse Steps”!
The next one is from Meghan R. She has a brand new crochet blog at Three Birds Crafting so feel free to show her a little love!
Shannon R made a floral study out of my geometric square – how cool! It has a rose in the center, and a floral-like border, and the color changes and surface crochet embellishments make it reminiscent of a garden path.
This one from Joanna K has a strong diagonal feel to it, accentuated by the placement of the surface chains. It also has a nice pop of color in the center. Speaking of quilt block, there was a tradition in quilting a long time ago to make the center square of a quilt yellow, gold or orange. It was then called a cheddar block.
And finally for now, this fun square from Marcie S, with a framed center section.
Thank you so very much for all the kind folks that allowed me to share their creative interpretations of the square!
