The Whispers of Winter hat is the perfect companion to the Whispers of Winter Scarf – also on the blog! It is crocheted from the top down in double crochet for the crown, then changes to the alternating blocks of double crochets and cluster stitch lace for the sides.

Finished Size: 20” at the hat band unstretched so it will fit up to about 23”; 8 ½” height
Materials: 430 yds worsted weight yarn (CYCA 4, Medium). Model shown in Concentric by HiKoo (100% baby alpaca; 200g; 437 yds), 1 skein color #1032
Note for coloring: When I made the scarf I left the dark red at the end of the gradient for the edging. While this hat took far less yardage than the scarf did, I still went to the end of the gradient to grab the red for the edging so the hat and scarf would match. If you do not use a gradient you can make the hat with about 140 yards.
Hook size H/8/5.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Locking stitch marker to mark end of rnd.
Gauge: 12 sts x 7 rows = 4” in dc – pattern stitch is slightly different. Gauge is not critical for this pattern as long as you have a pleasing fabric.
