Whispers of Winter Scarf

                 

This lovely scarf is crocheted in a long color repeat gradient so you can watch the colors unfold as you go! Made in 100% baby alpaca it will keep you super warm in winter, as well as extra fashionable!

Finished Size: 8 ½” x 68”

Materials: 430 yds worsted weight yarn (CYCA 4, Medium). Model shown in Concentric by HiKoo (Amazon link) (100% baby alpaca; 200g; 437 yds), 1 skein color #1032

Hook size H/8/5.00mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: 12 sts x 7 rows = 4” in dc – pattern stitch is slightly different. Gauge is not critical for this pattern as long as you have a pleasing fabric

Notes: Ch-3 counts as 1 dc

Special Stitches:

CL – 2-dc cluster: Yo, insert hook in designated st, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook, yo, insert hook in same st, yo, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook, yo, draw through 3 loops on hook.                            

Scarf:

Ch 30.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 29 sc

Row 2: Dc in each of next 6 sts, [sk 2 sc, (CL, ch 2, CL, ch 2, CL) in next sc, sk 2 sc, dc in each of next 5 sc] twice, dc in each of last 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. 19 dc + 2 groups of 3 CL

Row 3: Dc in each of next 6 sts, [(ch 2, sk next CL, sc in next ch-2 sp) twice, ch 2, sk next CL, dc in each of next 5 dc] twice, dc in each of last 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. 19 dc + 6 ch-2 sps

Row 4: Dc in each of next 6 sts, [sk next ch-2 sp, (CL, ch 2, CL, ch 2, CL) in next ch-2 sp, sk next ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 5 dc] twice, dc in each of last 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. 19 dc + 2 groups of 3 CL

Row 5: Rep Row 3.

Row 6: Dc in next dc, [sk 2 dc, (CL, ch 2, CL, ch 2, CL) in next dc, sk 2 dc, dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, dc in next ch-2 sp] twice, sk 2 dc, (CL, ch 2, CL, ch 2, CL) in next dc, sk 2 dc, dc in each of last 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. 14 dc + 3 groups of 3 CL

Row 7: Dc in next dc, [(ch 2, sk next CL, sc in next ch-2 sp) twice, ch 2, sk next CL, dc in each of next 5 dc) twice, (ch 2, sk next CL, sc in next ch-2 sp] twice, ch 2, sk next CL dc in each of last 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. 14 dc + 9 ch-2 sps

Row 8: Dc in next dc, [sk next ch-2 sp, (CL, ch 2, CL, ch 2, CL) in next ch-2 sp, sk next ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 5 dc] twice, sk next ch-2 sp, (CL, ch 2, CL, ch 2, CL) in next ch-2 sp, sk next ch-2 sp, dc in each of last 2 dc. Ch 3, turn.

Row 9: Rep Row 7.

Row 10: Dc in next st, [dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, dc in next ch-2 sp, sk 2 dc, (CL, ch 2, CL, ch 2, CL) in next dc, sk 2 dc] twice, dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in each of last 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. 19 dc + 2 groups of 3 CL

Rep Rows 3 – 10 for pattern.

End scarf at 68” or. desired length, ending after either Row 3 or Row 7.

Edging:

Sc all the way around scarf, placing 3 sc in each corner to ensure it lays flat, and when working across the short ends placing 1 sc in each st and ch-sp in the row.

Weave in ends.

Block.
